GrowNextGen Curriculum: Soybeans as a Chemical Feedstock

GrowNextGen Curriculum: Soybeans as a Chemical Feedstock
Learning Objets
Summary
GrowNextGen published this curriculum that includes lesson plans on understanding soybeans as a chemical feedstock. The lessons include an activity on soybean processing, two laboratory based experiments (testing and separating biomolecules in soybean) and an assignment for student to investigate soybean products and share out their findings.

Andrea Harpen, Chemistry and Physics Teacher at Blanchester High School contributed the curriculum to GrowNextGen. GrowNextGen is funded through the Ohio Soybean Council and Ohio soybean farmers. https://grownextgen.org/curriculum/soybeans-as-a-chemical-feedstock#background
Learning Goals/Student Objectives
1. Understand the various chemical steps involved in processing soybeans.
2. Determine lipid, protein, and carbohydrate content of processed soybeans.
3. Design or execute a procedure for separation of carbohydrate and protein from soymeal.
4. Investigate a new soybean product and create a learning object to share your knowledge.
