Bio

Nina Hike has over 28 years of experience as a high school science teacher specializing in Advanced Placement Environmental Science, International Baccalaureate, Middle Years Program, Honors & Regular Biology, and Chemistry. She has dedicated her career to educating students in the Chicago Public Schools system. Currently, Nina teaches at George Westinghouse College Prep in Chicago, IL. Recognizing her outstanding educational contributions, she was named the 2021 IL National Awardee for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching (PAEMST).

I'm a lead contributor to ChemEdX, specializing in Youth Participatory Science and Next Generation Science Standards-aligned curricula. I have published work on the Science Writing Heuristic, which fosters student collaboration and processing scientific knowledge gained through laboratory investigations. I'm curious, how do you balance culturally relevant pedagogy with the demands of standardized curricula in chemistry classrooms?
