Bio

I received a BS in chemistry from the University of Illinois and a Ph.D. in inorganic chemistry from Northern Illinois University, where I developed a new class of anionic platinum anticancer drugs containing a bidentate pyrophosphato ligand (phosphaplatins). These compounds display excellent cytotoxicty profiles in vitro, yet reduced binding to DNA compared cisplatin, a widely used Pt-based chemotherapy drug. I then held post-doctoral positions at Tulane University and the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio (UTHSCSA). At UTHSCA, I studied biology of aging, using C. elegans as a model organism, and used GC-MS based metabolic profiling to show that long-lived mitochondrial mutants of C. elegans produce a common pattern of metabolites. After leaving my second post-doctoral position, I transitioned into teaching, and have taught classes at St. Mary's University, St. Philips College, University of the Incarnate Word (all in San Antonio), Stockton University (NJ), Delaware Valley University (PA), and Manor college (PA). I have been teaching full time at Widener University since 2016, where I am currently an Assistant Professor.
