Michele Herdt

I am the Director of the New York State School Environmental Health Program (SEHP). This program has nine focus areas including indoor air quality, chemical and environmental hazards, climate action, and more. The program offers free education, training, and technical assistance in the nine focus areas to K-12 schools across New York State. I am also the Program Manager for two additional programs: the New York State Lead in School Drinking Water Program, which assists schools in testing their potable water for lead and reporting those results; and the New York State Children’s Environmental Health Centers of Excellence, a statewide network of pediatric healthcare centers specializing in environmental health. I am also an Assistant Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University at Albany College of Integrated Health Sciences. I developed the SEHP in 2012 and continue to expand the program to help schools be healthy places to learn and work. I have a Master of Public Health and a doctorate in Epidemiology from the University at Albany School of Public Health and have spent 30 years focusing on environmental and occupational health.
