CESTAB became (2011) the independent Center for Environmentally Sustainable Textile and Apparel Businesses and is a private group under the direction of Dr. Boyter. CESTAB is working with industry groups to promote real-world sustainability. CESTAB’s goals are to promote sustainability research in areas that spans the breadth of the textile and retail supply chain and to educate textile and apparel businesses in real-world sustainability by working with industry groups to promote sustainability that is rooted in science and economics. Services include mentorship on all EHS matters companies face.

The position (only location change) provided oversight of the Institute’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) Process and Research Budget. This Committee process funded applied research projects conducted by university, private, and Institute principal investigators through a competitive proposal process. The total research budget ranged up to one million dollars per year. This process also supplied the research funds for the Institute Graduate Fellows at North Carolina State University. This position included the supervision of 4-12 ITT Graduate Fellows per year.

Studies were used to identify current environmental concerns and how these concerns could be eliminated through treatment options, pollution prevention, chemical substitution, or process changes. Consulting services were provided and experience encompassed Environmental, Health, Safety, and Risk Assessments, Asbestos Services, Sick Building - Indoor Air Quality Evaluations, Phase I and II Surveys, Remediation - Phase III Surveys, and ISO 14001 Assessments. Clients included private sector, schools, state, federal, industrial, and business clients.
